+ Rambla of Punta del Este | Maldonado

Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay with approximately 1,500,000 people offers many housing options.

Do you want a 1500 sq ft 100 year old loft in the lively center of the city (Ciudad Vieja) surrounded by clubs, cafes, and art galleries?
How about a 1500 sq ft beach front condo near a fashionable private golf club? Or perhaps a modern 3000 sq ft home with a pool two blocks from the beach near shops, theatres, and a private tennis club with 22 clay courts, indoor/outdoor pools, a indoor basketball court, pilates, yoga, spinning, etc. The housing options are impressive and generally one third to one half the price one would expect to pay in California.
Everything in Montevideo is within a 20 minutes drive: shops, golf, tennis, beaches, horse back riding, theatres, small hip restaurants, etc. What you will not find in Montevideo are freeways cutting through the heart of the city. Nor will you find Starbucks, Wal-Mart, fast food chains on every corner, strip malls, or big box retailers.

What you will find are low key sophisticated people who speak a lot of English living in a temperate climate similar to California. It is a city of long conversations, a variety of sporting options such as tennis, golf, or horseback riding, leisurely dinners, sophisticated night life, and time to enjoy life.
Outside of Montevideo one can own a home or modern condominium in the fashionable beach resort of Punta de Este, located only an hour and a half from Montevideo. Punta de Este is the home for a sophisticated international community from Europe, South America, and America. Within two hours of the Capital of Montevideo, one can own a
cattle ranch or vineyard. In fact, quite a few people have 3 homes, one the city, one at the beach, and one in the countryside, all within 2 hours of one another!

Real estate is a very important asset for people of Uruguay. There is no problem for foreigners to own land although you do have to make sure there are no problems with title. We know the best lawyers in Uruguay to handle this important step.
Expect to pay cash when purchasing real estate. There is no very favorable bank financing for real estate at this time. It is possible, though, a seller could carry back a short term note.
